IMPRESIÓN DE PIEDAD CÓRDOBA.

Narcoterrorista Ivan Marquez, Hugo Chavez, Piedad Cordoba.

No me respondió.

PDVSA: RAMIREZ VS. RAMIREZ

Eddie Ramirez (above)
Rafael Ramirez (left) is the President of Petroleos de Venezuela and the Minister of Energy and Petroleum. He is also the new Food Czar of the Chavez regime. His salary is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, or perhaps more. He is getting paid this fabulous salary to destroy PDVSA, to politicize it and to obey the orders of Hugo Chavez about what use should be given to oil income and to the organization. His petroleum career has been very undistinguished but now it has become criminal.
Eddie Ramirez is the leader of Gente del Petroleo. He has stayed in Venezuela after Juan Fernandez and Horacio Medina had to leave the country. He is seen in all marches against the regime and he writes consistently in newspapers and websites about PDVSA and the harm current management is inflicting on the organization. He is not getting paid to defend PDVSA from the other Ramirez. Probably, not even his pension is being regularly paid. He symbolizes the dignity and true love for the organization that characterizes the thousands of petroleum managers and technical staff who lost their jobs after they protested against the politicization and prostitution of the company by Hugo Chavez and his gang.
The two Ramirez are not blood relatives and they are far apart in ethical postures. While Ramirez the politician is starting a food importing business in PDVSA, violating the nature of the organization, Ramirez the manager is telling us that Exploration in PDVSA is at a standstill. Eddie says: “In spite of announcements about drilling platforms in the Orinoco Delta there are no exploration projects under way. On the other hand CUPET and PDVSA are getting ready to explore in offshore Cuba and Chavez has offered Ecuador and Dominican Republic to explore for oil there”.
While Ramirez the ‘revolutionary” travels all over the world singing Chavez’s praises Eddie Ramirez tells us: “ Neither the ministry nor PDVSA give Venezuelans the true volume of oil production…In the year that jut ended production was only 2.384.000 barrels per day while PDVSA keeps insisting that produces 3.200.000 barrels per day…this is impossible to do with the amount of drilling rigs in operation…in October 2007 there were only 72 rigs versus a planned mount of 191…. The electrical generators are using crude oil because there is no gas available…and if there is insufficient gas this is due to the low crude oil production since natural gas is associated with the oil… we must remember that in 2001 we were saying that PDVSA would be producing 5.4 million barrels per day in 2007…. Readers can estimate the [enormous] financial losses of PDVSA due to this gap between plan and reality”.
While Ramirez the minister is busy ordering PDVSA staff to wear red to the offices Eddie Ramirez tells us: “There were 16 industrial accidents that we know of in our refineries during 2007… five workers died…and there were high financial losses…in 2003 there were six accidents…this illustrates theincreasing lack of properly trained technicians and of experienced managers…In January 2008 there have already been two industrial accidents in El Palito and Amuay… on top of this the Lieutenant Colonel said long time ago that refineries in Cabruta, Barinas and Caripito would be built but there are no economic justifications for this…”.
While Ramirez the chavista announces his future invasion of Bolivia [to defend Evo Morales] Eddie Ramirez reminds us “the domestic demand of gasoline and distillates reached almost 800.000 barrels per day. This is partly explained by the low production of oil that results in insufficient natural gas being available to be used in industry and by the contraband of gasoline into Colombia and Brazil…. This means less oil for exports… today there are shortages of gasoline in the country… PDVSA is actually importing some components… there are problems of distribution… the president of PDVSA has said that gas stations would be turned over to Community Councils and this would further deteriorate the situation… according Mariana Parraga, in El Universal, the subsidy in the domestic market already amounts to some $12.5 billion per year”.
Ramirez the president keeps sending the money PDVSA needs for reinvestment to Chavez’s “social” programs. Meanwhile, says Ramirez the observer: “Venezuela is giving oil away for free to Cuba, Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay, Nicaragua, PetroCaribe and Chavez is offering to build refineries in Cuba, Brazil, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Paraguay and Dominica…. According journalist Suarez Nuñez the offers by Chavez amount to $25.8 billion”.
Ramirez the bureaucrat accepts that PDVSA can do anything, importing food, repairing potholes, building roads while Ramirez the technocrat says: “PDVSA has serious problems of cash flow… new debt is of the order of $17 billion…. PDVSA is demanding payment from clients within eight days of delivering, instead of the traditional thirty days”.
While Ramirez the minister employs grandiose rhetoric about independence and sovereignty Ramirez the manager says: ‘Previous international operators are now owners of up to 49% of the oil…. Companies from Cuba, Vietnam and Uruguay, among others, are engaged in the Orinoco area without having experience…Chevron’s president Ali Moshiri is a great “adulante” [boot-licker] of the regime and has dismissed employees for political reasons, in violation of our constitution”.”
Ramirez the incompetent speaks about grandiose gas projects while Eddie Ramirez says: “No offshore gas projects have been finished… The Gasoducto del Sur turned out to be a total fiasco due to the lack of gas and environmental and financial considerations…. The project of gas for automobiles might fail again since it can only be applied to 14% of existing vehicles.”
Ramirez the president/minister talks proudly of social programs while Ramirez the former manager reminds us that: “new PDVSA affiliates to build houses, to engage in agriculture, to import food, to build ships, to engage in industries and urban development destroy the mission and objectives of the company and will increase inefficiency”.
Rafael Ramirez is the symbol of a company that has gone the way of corruption. Eddie Ramirez tells us “The famous case of the bag with $800,000 is only a small indication…. Ship contracting, marketing commissions, fuel deliveries that get lost, drilling rigs that do no exist, appear to make up a gigantic corruption in red PDVSA….”
While Ramirez the president talks about socialism of the XXI century Eddie Ramirez says: “26 workers have died in industrial accidents since 2003…”.
Ramirez-vs. - Ramirez symbolizes the tragedy of an oil company that used to be the pride of Venezuelans, now the political instrument of a despot. I am one who believes that PDVSA is in an irreversible path to financial collapse. They have an acute problem of cash flow, yes, but I think they are also incapable of mending their ways. Chavez is an ignorant who believes that PDVSA’s managers would be lying to him if they told him that the resources of the company should be dedicated to reinvestment and to oil related activities. If this took place these managers would lose their jobs. Therefore, they just keep silently doing the things that lead to the destruction of the company since, at least, they keep getting their enormous salaries and even some can actively engage in corruption with their friends the contractors, as Vice president of the company Luis Vierma accepted a few months ago, without much shame, before the Venezuelan National Assembly.

PETROLEOS DE VENEZUELA NOW ENGAGED IN MILK AND TUNA IMPORTS.

PUT A COW IN YOUR TANK!!
*** PDVSA’s oil production is down but milk imports are up.
PDVSA’s oil production has declined by some 800,000 barrels per day during the last seven years and it will inevitably keep declining, as investments are significantly below requirements. This means that oil exports, the economic lifeline of Venezuela, have also been declining, not only because production is down but also because domestic consumption is sharply up. Meanwhile PDVSA, led by the future liberator of Bolivia, Rafael Ramirez, has opened a new division called PDVAL, PDVSA Alimentos, to import food (faster than producing it). The opening of this new division has been a major event in the State of Zulia. It is born, says Ramirez, “to solve the problems of supply of basic foods, in answer to the existing situation of hoarding, contraband and detour of products” in the country”. PDVSA is engaged, Ramirez says, in a struggle to prevent the food from going to Colombia (although for many years the food has been coming from Colombia!). PDVAL is working together with the National Guard and has the full cooperation of the workers of the oil company, all dressed in red.
PDVSA is importing food through Bariven, an affiliate company. Bariven is fully and enthusiastically engaged in emergency imports of milk, tuna in cans, soy oil, margarine, tomato paste and other products. Their offices in the U.S., Argentina and other countries place ads in the newspapers and send letters to food exporters to ask for their offers of chicken, beef, eggs and other foodstuffs. “This is not a temporary program” says Ramirez, who is probably being trained at MAKRO, “we will continue distributing food through our network of commissary stores”.
Ramirez approaches the task with revolutionary zeal: “We will import 125,000 tons of food and will continue importing until we defeat the hoarding and the lack of supply”.
In these days Venezuela is a strange country all right. New police equipment is donated to Bolivia while our crime rate is the highest in the hemisphere. Houses are built in Cuba while Venezuelans have no homes of their own. New refineries are financed or promised for 14 countries around the world while Amuay and Cardon have fires and accidents every other month and gasoline shortages flare up in different places of the country. Top food importer Hugo Chavez claims that the FARC are a civilized political group and that the government of Alvaro Uribe wants war. PDVSA is planning to open a furniture division and has already become the biggest food distributor in the country.
Ii seems like PDVSA geologists will not be talking anymore about the Cretaceous and the Oca Fault but about the price of eggs and how many tons of milk are coming in. Production Engineers will not bother so much about pressures and temperatures and drilling muds but about margarine or about who is the real owner of ProArepa. I am happy that my geological career is over and I do not have to start talking about cassava and corn as part of my job.
PDVSA, Platanos de Venezuela S.A.? Not for me.

YOU WANT TO KNOW WHO CHAVEZ IS? LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS!

In his Sunday TV program "ALO PRESIDENTE", that can run anywhere between three and seven hours, depending on how he feels, Hugo Chavez lets Venezuelans know what he thinks. Those who have enough stomach to watch and listen will get a true measure of the person. Here is what he had to say last Sunday about President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia, a neighbor country with which Venezuela has always had diplomatic relations. This is an English translation of his words:
"Uribe is a liar, a coward, an intriguer and a manipulator. He does not deserve to be president of anything, much less a country. He is good to be the leader of a mafia". Chavez added: "Uribe will go down in history as a pawn of the U.S. empire". He accused the Colombian government of trying to sabotage the delivery of the Colombian hostages.
In another topic he said, not in very democratic vein: "If the opposition wins the [next regional] elections [for governors and mayors] then there will be war in Venezuela". He said that the only way a war could be averted would be by letting him win the elections. How is that for democracy?
Those who still believe Hugo Chavez is a democratic president and a defender of the poor have never heard his barbaric rhetoric . Chavez is a dictator but, in contrast with Castro, who was a superb strategist and who tutored Chavez until he became a vegetable some moths ago, Chavez is a slave of his passions and of his monumental complex of inferiority. His recent failures at home and abroad have put pressure on him to take ever more spectacular initiatives. The failure of his first attempt at rescuing hostages from FARC, was particularly painful to his ego, since he had recruited a bunch of clowns to give the handover the category of a major media spectacle: Kirchner, Oliver Stone, Colombian renegade Piedad Cordoba and an assortment of minor diplomats, numerous helicopters and about 200 journalists were kept waiting by the FARC until they all went back home empty handed. Chavez was bested by Uribe that time around and now he is desperate to get even. For one thing he has publicly said that the FARC are a legitimate political group and should not be classified as terrorists. Not even Mr. Kirchner, who looks like the twin brother of the assistant of Young Dr. Frankestein, accompanied him in this claim. Chavez is now at the treshold of dementia and is, in fact, doing all he can to provoke Colombia into a military conflict.
And, at this moment, what is the OAS doing? Its members are resting after a holiday season too rich in good food and good wine. Mr. Insulza, the Secretary General is absorbed in his candidacy for the presidency of Chile. He has no time for minor things such as the political stability in the northern Andean region.

CHAVEZ AND THE FARC, PUBLISHED IN HUMAN EVENTS TODAY

Politics Gustavo Coronel

Chavez and FARC
by Gustavo Coronel
Posted: 01/15/2008
On January 10 Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez made his State of the Union speech before the National Assembly. To the enthusiastic applause of the audience he said: “ The FARC [Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia] are not terrorists but armies with a legitimate political posture. We respect them …. I ask the European Union that their label of terrorists be erased”. Just hours before, in the Colombian jungle, and as the FARC were handing two hostages over to Venezuelan authorities, the Venezuelan Minister of the Interior, Ramon Rodriguez Chacin, said to the guerrilla members: “President Chavez wishes to let you know that we pay great attention to your struggle. Keep up your fighting spirit and your force. You can count on us”.
This explicit endorsement has been shocking, coming from the leader of a nation that has diplomatic relations with neighboring Colombia, where the FARC has been, for over 40 years, the main enemy of society and of all democratic governments. FARC was created in 1964, made up of members of the Colombian Communist Party who established the so-called “Republic of Maquetalia” in the jungles of the country. They defined themselves as “Marxist-Leninist and Bolivarian,” and began funding their campaign of assassinations and bombings by selling raw cocaine. They are the biggest of the narco-terrorist rings in the world and -- with a membership variously estimated at 10,000 to 16,000 -- one of the largest terrorist groups in the world.
In the 1980’s FARC separated from the Communist Party and became increasingly involved with drug trafficking. Its top hierarchy of seven members is led by septuagenarian Manuel Marulanda. Its main sources of financing are kidnapping, protection money and drug trafficking. Kidnapping, done for ransom, brings in some $200 million per year. Often, however, hostages are not released or are assassinated even after ransom is paid. A U.S. Peace Corps volunteer, Richard Starr, was kidnapped in 1997 and held for three years until his mother raised the $250,000 ransom. German citizen Lothar Hintze was kidnapped and held for five years, although his wife paid ransom three times.
Protection money is extorted from peasants who live in FARC-controlled areas. In later years more income has been coming to the group from drug trafficking, an estimated $400 million per year. Venezuela is the transit country of choice for about 300 tons of cocaine being shipped every year to the U.S. and Europe by FARC operators. The Russian mafia has established close contacts with the group. Frank Cilluffo, from CSIS, testified to the U.S. Congress in 2000 that Russian planes fly into the Colombian jungle carrying arms and ammunitions to the guerrillas in exchange for cocaine. Brazilian drug lords and Venezuelan military commanders have also been reported to work closely with the terrorists. The FARC have killed an estimated 100,000 people in Colombia, most of them civilians, and caused the displacement of over two million Colombians from their normal places of residence. Some of the killing has been especially gruesome, from the massacre of seven peasants in 2004 (that was the object of a strong U.N. resolution of condemnation) to the cold-blooded execution of eleven provincial deputies in 2007, after five years of captivity. The Red Cross determined they had been shot in the head at close range, after their release had been promised by the FARC.
A 2005 U.N. report stated: “For year 2004 the FARC continued to commit grave breaches of human rights such as murder, torture and hostage-taking affecting civilians, including women, boys and girls and ethnic groups”. Human Rights Watch has denounced their use of gas cylinder mortars against the civilian population. By Executive Order 13224 of President Bush, of October 2001, the U.S. designated the FARC as a terrorist organization, an example followed by the European Union.
This is the organization that Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez has openly embraced. A report of the U.S. Homeland Security for 2007 reads: “Venezuela has virtually ceased its cooperation in the global war on terror [and] tolerated terrorists in its territory”. The public request just made by Chavez to withdraw the definition of terrorist to the FARC has already been met with indignation in Colombia and Europe. Former Colombian President Andres Pastrana is calling for a break in diplomatic relations with Venezuela. The Colombian presidency has issued a strong statement rejecting Chavez’s request. Government spokesmen from Guatemala, Argentina and Ecuador have expressed their disagreement with Chavez’s posture. The European Union has simply “taken note of President Chavez’ request”. The Spanish press has been particularly severe. An editorial in Madrid’s ABC calls Chavez “the FARC’s lawyer” while El Mundo calls for his international isolation. Bogotá’s main daily, El Tiempo, speculates on a possible military alliance between Chavez and the FARC.
Not by coincidence Colombian President Uribe is meeting, as I write this, with the Colombian Military High Command.
Hugo Chavez is starting to look, more and more, like Manuel Noriega.
Gustavo Coronel is a petroleum geologist, author and public policy expert, who was elected to the Venezuelan Congress in 1998 before it was dissolved in 1999 following the election of Hugo Chavez as president. Coronel is currently designated as an "enemy" of the Chavez regime.

1.Una economía abierta a la competencia e integrada al mercado internacional;
2. Una mejor preparación de nuestro recurso humano;
3. Una actividad del estado esencialmente limitada al bienestar social y de carácter rectora, no operativa;
4. Una sociedad civil capaz de cuidarse a sí mima, no una de mendicantes;
5. Excelentes servicios públicos;

OIL, CHAVEZ, ETHICS AND JOSEPH KENNEDY II

The Venezuelan poor has no Kennedy II to embrace.

*** HOW CHAVEZ AND KENNEDY UTILIZE THE POOR TO ADVANCE THEIR PERSONAL AGENDAS.

In early 1980, just after he founded Citizens Energy Corporation, Joseph Kennedy II approached the democratic government of Venezuela to buy oil. The newly created corporation was starting as an oil trader, hoping to use the profits in charitable programs to be developed in third world countries and in the poorer areas of the United States. Kennedy’s initiative was accepted by Venezuelan Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Humberto Calderon, with the condition that the corporation would use the benefits of the oil trading operation in social and energy conservation initiatives in Caribbean countries such as Jamaica, as well as in Venezuela. The Venezuelan government agreed to this program because it felt Kennedy’s idea had merit but did not use it as P.R. tool. In fact, the participation of the Venezuelan government in these early programs went practically unnoticed in the U.S.
Almost 25 years later the authoritarian government of Venezuela, led by Hugo Chavez, felt that the program with Kennedy II could be revived in an expanded and different format. One of Chavez’s main strategies called for the creation of allies in the U.S. political sector and generating goodwill among the poorer segments of the U.S. population, in an effort to antagonize the government of George Bush, one that he has insistently defined as evil.
The broker of this new agreement was U.S. Congressman William De La Hunt (D, Mass.) who visited Venezuela during 2005 and discussed the idea with Hugo Chavez. After months of negotiations an agreement was signed in November 2005 between Kennedy’s Energy Citizens Corporation and Citgo, now owned by the Venezuelan government, to start a program through which Venezuelan fuel oil would be distributed at a 40% discount to poorer segments of the population in the northeastern portion of the country, essentially Massachusetts and neighboring states. The initial volumes would be relatively modest, some 40 million gallons during 2006, increasing to 100 million gallons in 2007 and the following years. As the price of the gallon of fuel has been around $3 the cost of this subsidy for Citgo has already been of the order of $180 million and will be of some $120 million during 2008.
In an article published in his blog in November 2005 (“On a scheme to hoodwink America’s poor: Hugo Chavez enlists a Kennedy for his anti-U.S. campaign”), Pedro M. Burelli, a former member of the Board of Venezuelan oil state-owned company Petroleos de Venezuela, strongly criticized this agreement on several counts: one, the excessive media display, which suggests that the intention of the Chavez government is to play the role of the good Samaritan in the U.S. while keeping Venezuelans as poor as always; two, the fact that Citgo could have executed this program directly since it has logistical capabilities superior to Kennedy’s organization; and, three, the well-documented fact that Chavez policies and rhetoric have triggered severe oil price increases for the U.S. population at large, which shows that this program is just a hypocritical propaganda ploy. The so-called “Chavez premium”, Burelli affirmed, has added between $7-8 per barrel to the price of oil. Burelli also claimed that both De La Hunt and Kennedy had done this deal to reap political benefits rather than by altruism.
Even some pro-Chavez analysts in Washington DC openly admitted that the agreement was politically motivated, more than a humanitarian initiative. In The Boston Globe, a report by M. Levinson and S. Milligan (November 20, 2005) quoted Larry Birns, from COHA, saying: “This initiative by Chavez [and Kennedy] is a slap in the face” of the Bush administration. Jeff Cohen, an enthusiastic Chavez “volunteer” left no doubt about the political nature of Citgos’s initiatives when he wrote (http://www.commondreams.com/, January 2008): “Looking for a way to protest Bush foreign policy? Buy gasoline at Citgo”. Bloggers received comments such as: “Citco (sic) is cool by me. Chavez thinks Bush sucks and so do I”. In an op-ed by Liza Featherstone for The Nation (‘Chavez’s citizen diplomacy”, December 14, 2006) she quoted a resident of the Bronx, Ms. Patricia White, as saying: “I am impressed [by the Citgo program]. It is refreshing, no red tape. Chavez is not like a U.S. politician. Here 80% of what they say does not happen”. If naïve Ms. White only lived in Venezuela she would have found out that more than 80% of what President Chavez says to Venezuelans does not happen and that the lack of red tape in the U.S. program was simply due to the authoritarian style of Hugo Chavez, one that admits no delays or objections. She probably did not know that in 1999, when an natural disaster took the lives of thousands of Venezuelans living along the coast, Chavez refused to let U.S. aid come into the country. Today, the area still needs rebuiding and survivors need attention that never came.
The Citgo/Kennedy program was ordered directly by Chavez to Citgo’s president Felix Rodriguez in 2005 (now replaced by Alejandro Granados). Rodriguez was quoted by David Lynch in USA Today (“Has Citgo become a political tool?” January 11,2006) as saying : “The only difference between Citgo and other companies is that Citgo has only one shareholder”. For those conversant with the Venezuelan current political situation the single shareholder Rodriguez had in mind was Hugo Chavez.
This “oil to the poor” program has been accompanied by a series of 30 second segments aired over national television, ads in which Joseph Kennedy II acts as the spokesman for the program and enthusiastically thanks Venezuela and Hugo Chavez for their generosity to the U.S. poor. These TV ads have received much criticism from Americans who feel indignant about Kennedy’s opportunistic participation, who have witnessed Chavez’s descent into dictatorship and/or have listened to his insults against President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. In reply to some of this criticism Kennedy II wrote an article in The Boston Globe (“Yes, Oil from Venezuela”, December 24, 2006) in which he stated: “the cold, elderly woman, does not care about rhetoric”. He seems to believe that the poor should be glad to receive handouts no matter the moral texture of the giver. He added: “criticism [of the program] is not about cheap oil but about Hugo” and said defiantly: “We will keep distributing Hugo’s oil”.Kennedy left no doubt he was siding with Chavez : “Chavez is socializing the oil profits. Poverty has dipped 25%. Food and health services have expanded”. However, he was and remains badly disinformed. Chavez has been pilfering oil profits while poverty in Venezuela remains at about 46% and income inequality has increased. This has taken place in spite of the $300 billion of oil windfall Chavez has received during the last nine years. Crime in the country is rampant and extreme food shortages are forcing the petroleum company to act as emergency importer of food. The failure of Chavez’s massive handout programs to really alleviate poverty is one of the factors that led to the defeat of his attempt to become president for life, last December 2, 2007.
The strongest criticism of Kennedy’s involvement in this program has come from Congressman Connie Mack. In a letter to Kennedy dated February 20, 2007, Mack said: “Hugo Chavez is providing your company with “low cost heating oil” not to help the American people but, rather, to exploit his apologists in the name of public relations. Sadly, you have chosen to actively participate in this charade, even as he continues to attack the United States”.
Kennedy replied to this letter with a biting letter of his own in which he called Mack’s criticism hypocritical. He said: “I would suggest that you hold all of 558 million barrels of oil we import annually from Venezuela to the same moral standard and not just the small slice we provide at a discount to the poor”. In this reply Kennedy obviously refused to make a difference between the traditional, arms-length commercial relationship that the two countries have maintained for over a century and the propaganda scheme in which plays a major role, one designed to make Chavez look altruistic.
Mack responded to this letter by challenging Kennedy to a public debate, a challenge Kennedy has refused to accept.
The TV ads have been shown for many months now, over national TV. Considering that each one of these TV spots costs hundreds of thousands of dollars and their high frequency, the cost to Citgo of this glorification of Chavez and Kennedy must run in the tens of millions of dollars per year.
There are, at least, two central issues related to this Citgo/Kennedy program. One is related to the fact that Venezuela is a country with extreme poverty, in great need of wise and honest utilization of its financial resources. Instead, Chavez is using Venezuelan national money in an all-out campaign for self-promotion. The oil for the poor program coordinated by Kennedy is part of this campaign, perhaps small in a quantitative sense but of great potential political impact in the United States. The U.S. poor receiving the handouts from Chavez have an average annual income six to ten times higher than the Venezuelan poor. This does not make logical or moral sense.
The other issue is related to Kennedy himself. A man nurtured in democracy, bearing a famous name in American politics, should have been more careful with the type of company he kept. Now, because of his deep involvement in the program, Kennedy is becoming a prisoner of the situation, finding himself obliged to defend a man who grows more undemocratic everyday. Chavez has just publicly sided with the Colombian narcoterrorist guerrilla, FARC, officially placing his regime in an alliance with the terrorists and against the democratic government of Colombia. As the spokesperson of the Chavez oil propaganda machine in the U.S., Kennedy has now become just one member of the gang.
As the days go by, Joseph Kennedy II might be feeling increasingly sorry that he got entangled with Hugo Chavez. Now it seems too late for him to break away without permanent damage to what remains of his reputation.

CHAVEZ AND TIRO FIJO ARE NOW OFFICIAL ALLIES

FARC's high command without Tiro Fijo

*** HUGO CHAVEZ IS NOW AN OPEN ALLY OF THE COLOMBIAN FARC.
The Colombian guerrillas have been at war in Colombia for three or more decades, against liberal and conservative governments alike. If they ever started out as a political group they have now become a narcoterrorist organization of the worst kind. Their main sources of financing are drug trafficking and kidnapping. Hundreds of innocent Venezuelans, and thousands of Colombians have been their victims, being kidnapped for ransom and murdered, even after their families have paid ransom. They have found haven for criminal activities in Venezuelan territory, where their leaders have been known to live under the protection of the Chavez government. In Venezuela their troops find refuge from the pursuit of the Colombian army and have established a drug transit operation involving over 300 tons of cocaine per year in their way to U.S. and European markets.
This has been known for some time, although little or nothing has been done about it by other countries or by international bodies such as the OAS or the United Nations. The Colombian government, the most affected by this Venezuelan tolerance for the criminal organization, has largely kept quiet, hoping to appease their aggressive neighbor. President Uribe has tried very hard to keep good relations with a regime that has been buying billions of dollars in weapons, from tanks to missiles to fighter jets and has openly insulted him.
Chavez has taken Uribe’s caution as a sign of weakness. In fact, he seems to be making of an increasing alignment with the FARC an important component of his foreign policy. The selection by FARC of Hugo Chavez as a mediator to release three hostages, probably helped along by a significant monetary contribution from the Venezuelan strongman, has been a clear indication of the coziness of their relationship. Although the first attempt, some days ago, failed since one of the hostages, a boy, was already in the hands of the Colombian government, FARC finally handed over the two female hostages to Chavez. This time there was no big media show. Former Argentinean Kirchner and Oliver Stone had already departed the jungle.
There was a video of the hostages saying affectionate goodbyes to their captors and some takes of the omnipresent Piedad Cordoba, the Colombian Congresswoman who has openly taken the side of the FARC. Dressed in scarlet red, like a medieval clown, the new Venezuelan Minister of the Interior, Ramon Rodriguez Chacin, is seen talking on the phone continuously with Hugo Chavez. The hostages also talked briefly with Chavez, thanking him for his intervention. Almost at the end of the video comes a most important segment: the minister Rodriguez Chacin, after listening to Chavez on the phone approaches the departing guerrilla and tells them: “In the name of president Chavez I want to say that we pay great attention to your struggle… keep up your spirit and your force. You can count on us”.
To me this sounded like a pretty definite endorsement. It is fully official as the Venezuelan Minister of the Interior was talking publicly to the FARC members, in the name of the Venezuelan president. I have to wonder how Venezuela, having diplomatic relations with Colombia, can publicly endorse the main enemy of the Colombian nation, one that is trying to topple its democratic Colombian government.
There is little doubt, after seeing this video that the stage could be set for a major political an/or military showdown in the Andes, one that might involve the OAS and several Latin American countries. Hugo Chavez could be thinking of siding militarily with the FARC in order to provoke a Latin American crisis. This is his Plan B, now more probable than ever, given the string of defeats he has suffered at home and abroad during the last year.

STONE STONED.

Oliver Stone has just declared, in his way back to Caracas after the Colombian hostage fiasco, that "Chavez is a great man" and Uribe is "the guilty party, a fraud".
He can say all he wants, but public opinion can already see the truth in the wall. The FARC did not deliver the hostages, the clowns recruited by Chavez went home with their tails within their legs and Stone could not film one foot related to the hostages.
Who is right? Stone is a proven Castro's ass-kisser. He wants to be an Ahmadinejad's ass-kisser and, of course, he is now a Chavez's ass kisser. He surely made millions but he lacks one thing: dignity. I would like to ask him:

  • Do you know that there are many political prisoners in Venezuela, in spite of the "pardon"recently issued by the clown?

  • Do you know that Venezuela has a murder rate twice as large as Iraq's?

  • Do you know that Chavez has received about $600 billion during his tenure and that he has almost nothing to show for it?

  • Do you know that the United Nations has disclaimed Chavez's pretensions to have eliminated iliteracy in the country. Do you know that Venezuela had a 93% literacy rate before Chavez came into power?

  • Do you know that Chavez's relatives are a bunch of thieves?

  • Do you know that there is not one single prisoner for corruption during Chavez' s tenure, when corruption has been at the highest historical level in Venezuela?

  • Do you know that there is no sugar, no milk, no sardines, no chickens in the Venezuelan markets?

  • Do you know that companies that do business with the Chavez's government are often owned by Chavez's friends and relatives?

  • Do you know that the acquisition of Argentinean bonds enriched illegally the bankers friends of Chavez and some of Chavez's bureaucrats?

  • Do you know that the parallel market rate of the Bolivar is three times higher than the official rate?

  • Do you know that Chavez has bought about $8 billion in weapons although this money was desperately needed by the Venezuelan poor?

I could go on and on but, Mr.Stone, but the questions above will suffice. What are you looking for in Venezuela? A stable supply of cocaine?
